NETObserve
Frequently Asked Questions
The
following questions are the most common questions the
support team receives regarding NETObserve.
1.
What is NETObserve?
NETObserve
is a cutting edge, revolutionary surveillance tool designed
for the Windows operating system. NETObserve is one
of the most powerful and intelligent monitoring products
to date, which has helped it define itself as a valuable
player in the surveillance industry. NETObserve allows
you to completely log ALL system activity, and Internet
related content. It also has built in, out-of-the-box
support for different forms of visual surveillance,
including web cams.
What
makes NETObserve is unique, is the fact that you can
run NETObserve on a computer, and connect to that computer
from anywhere in the world through a web browser. This
gives you the opportunity to monitor the machine in
REAL TIME you can see what is going on, as it
is going on not 8-12 hours later like other surveillance
tools where you must wait until a machine goes out of
usage before you can check system activity logs.
Aside
from its powerful surveillance features, NETObserve
is also a great administration tool. You can use it
for transferring files between computers, configuring
Windows settings, and more all from within a
web browser! For a complete, in depth look at NETObserve,

2.
How do I access my remote machine running the NETObserve?
Connecting
to your computer running NETObserve is a fairly easy
process. All that is needed is a web browser and an
Internet connection. Once your ready, follow the below
instructions to connect to your machine.
Load up your favorite web browser and type in the following
URL:
http://your_IP_address:port
Simply
fill in with your computer's IP address [this can be
found on the main interface of NETObserve, or from the
e-mail update NETObserve can send out if you wish] and
the that you have configured NETObserve with. If you
left the NETObserve port to 80, then you will not have
to specify a port. However, if you changed the NETObserve
port to something other then 80, you will have to specify
it in the URL.
3.
How secure is NETObserve?
During
the development of NETObserve, the main focus was security.
And, security is what we have brought. NETObserve can
be configured to be tremendously secure! NETObserve
has built in functionality for banning both IP addresses
and computer HOST NAMES! If someone tries to connect
from a banned IP Address or host name, it will quickly
reject him or her from accessing the control panel.
You also have the ability to use NETObserve\'s flexible
file system Restrictions feature. This allows you to
manage a list of files/directories that you do not want
to have accessible from the web browser.
NETObserve
is also password protected by a tough encryption algorithm,
which will stop others from potentially cracking the
password. The password can set after installing the
NETObserve Server, and can be changed at any time!
Lastly,
and most importantly, NETObserve utilizes the MD5 Message
Digest Algorithm [as defined in RFC 1321]. The MD5 Message
Digest Algorithm is a one-way hash algorithm, which
takes any length of data and produces a 128-bit "fingerprint"
or "message digest". Put simply - all passwords
sent to NETObserve will be securely encrypted using
the MD5 hash to prevent any possible snoops from obtaining
your password while it is in route to NETObserve.
4.
Can I run NETObserve on a dialup connection?
Absolutely!
The NETObserve Server can run on any level of dialup
connection. However, keep in mind that the NETObserve
Server uses the available bandwidth of the machine it
is installed on, so you may experience lag when connecting
to the machine from a remote location due to the poor
upload speeds of dialup connections.
5.
Can I purchase NETObserve on my work machine, and install
it on my home machine at a later date?
Of
course! That is, assuming that the copy that you have
purchased has not yet been installed on any other computer,
and that the computer that it will be installed on is
one that you own. If you would like to install NETObserve
on multiple machines, you are required to purchase additional
licenses.
More
information on this can be found at the purchasing page.
6.
How soon can I get NETObserve?
NETObserve
is available immediately for electronic download!
By
using the NETObserve secure online ordering method,
you will be able to order, download, and configure/use
the NETObserve server in less than 10 minutes!

7.
Will NETObserve function on a network?
Absolutely!
If you have many computers networked together, and you
would like to connect to each of those computers by
their computer name, you can do so the same way you
would connect to an IP, except instead of an IP you
would replace it with the computer name. Therefore,
the address you would point your browser to would be
similar to the following:
http://computer_name:port
Where
computer_name is the name of the computer you wish to
connect to, and port is the port that you have configured
the NETObserve Server to serve on.
Note:
You must purchase additional licenses if you wish to
put NETObserve on multiple PCs! See the purchasing page
for more info.

additional NETObserve licenses.
8.
Can I use my computer's Dynamic IP service to connect
to the NETObserve from a remote location?
Absolutely!
If you are signed up with free services which provide
you with a host name for your PC, you will be able to
connect to NETObserve exactly the same way you would
if you were connecting to your IP Address. Simply type
in your domain name [such as yourname.dyndns.tv] followed
by the port you have configured within NETObserve with.
If everything is set accordingly, you will now be able
to access NETObserve through your host name, instead
of remembering your IP Address!
Note:
We recommend all the users of NETObserve to look into
services that provide dynamic DNS hosting [such as Dynamic
DNS Network Services ]. This will make it easier for
you to connect to your computer running the NETObserve
Server by remembering your host name, rather than keeping
track of IP Addresses.
9.
Can I connect to NETObserve from a Macintosh or Linux
machine?
Yes.
You can connect to your Windows machine running NETObserve
from any computer with a web browser. This includes
Windows, Linux, and Macintosh based systems.
Note:
The computer you run NETObserve on must be a Windows
Operating System.
10.
Is there a monthly charge associated with NETObserve?
There
is currently, and will never be, any monthly charge
for the usage of NETObserve. The only price you will
have to pay is the $54.95 one-time fee for registering
your copy of NETObserve for a single user license [if
you choose to do so].
You
will never be billed again after the initial purchase
of NETObserve.
11.
How easy is NETObserve to install and maintain?
NETObserve
was developed with user friendliness in mind. Once you
download and install NETObserve, you will be greeted
with a sleek, easy to follow, configuration wizard.
This will ask you a serious of questions, which will
give NETObserve enough information to work correctly
on your PC. After that, you activate NETObserve with
a single click and let it run!
If
you find that the configuration wizard didnt give
you the flexibility in customizing you had hoped for,
you can configure NETObserve further using the different
options windows. NETObserve also comes with a detailed
help file to answer any questions you may have.
If
you happen to come across something you are unsure of
how to configure, or what it does, and it cannot be
found in the help file, feel free to contact us and
we will get back to you!
12.
Does the machine running NETObserve need to be online
for it to monitor the PC?
No.
The machine running NETObserve does NOT need to be online
to monitor the PC. However, if you wish to view the
surveillance logs, or perform administration from a
remote location, the machine running NETObserve WILL
need to be online.
NOTE:
You do not have to be online if you are checking surveillance
logs or performing administration on the machine running
NETObserve, but if you are planning on connecting to
NETObserve remotely, the machine must be online.
13.
Can I view logs and reports from the computer I am monitoring?
Yes.
You do not have to be at a remote location in order
to use the NETObserve Web Control Panel. If you wish
to connect to the NETObserve Web Control from the PC
running NETObserve, simply click "Launch NETObserve
Control Panel in your default browser!" button
on the main NETObserve interface.
Note:
NETObserve MUST be in "Active" mode before
attempting to connect to the NETObserve Web Control
Panel.
14.
Can I Install NETObserve on a PC which is NOT mine?
No
- NETObserve can only be installed on a PC that you
own.
It
is illegal to install this type of software on a machine
that you do not own. This is also in direct violation
of our Privacy Policy, which you must agree to before
installing this software.
